As part of the implementation of the Secretariat’s 2021 Work Program relating to courtesy visits to Ministers and Heads of Delegation of Member Countries, the Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization, APPO, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim visited N’Djamena, capital city of the Republic of Chad, from 27 to 29 October 2021. He was accompanied by the Managing Director of the African Energy Investment Corporation (AEICorp), Zakaria Dosso.

The delegation was received on October 28, 2021 by the Prime Minister of Chad, Mr. Albert Pahimi Padacké. On the agenda of this meeting were questions on the activities of the Organization, the statutory contributions of Member Countries including Chad to the Organization, the 1st Summit of Heads of State of APPO Member Countries scheduled to be held in 2022 in Brazzaville and the 41st Session of the Council of Ministers scheduled to take place in Algiers in December.
It was also discussed the common position of the APPO Member Countries on the thorny ideological issue of the Energy Transition, which Chad supports the steps taken by the Secretary General and strongly encourages him to continue to defend the interests of African countries that are only asking to develop thanks to the products of their subsoil.
With the Chadian Prime Minister, the issue of Chad’s subscription to the share capital of the African Energy Investment Corporation (AEICorp) was also discussed.
Fruitful and enriching talks were held with the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Oumar Torbo Djarma.
Meetings were also held with the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, the officials of the Société des Hydrocarbures du Tchad (SHT) and an audience with the Prime Minister, Head of Government.
APPO was founded in 1987. It now has 15 member countries, including Chad, which joined in 2005.
