Brazzaville, [20 July 2026] — The Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) H.E. Mr. Farid Ghezali and the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) H.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 20 July 2026, with the aim of strengthening the cooperation framework of the GECF-APPO energy dialogue. The solemn signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the APPO Secretariat in Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), in the presence of H.E. Stev Simplice Onanga, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Congo.

The agreement aims to carry out activities and share experiences, convergences of views, information, data and best practices in areas of common interest through various means. During the ceremony, the Secretary General of APPO praised the leading role played by GECF as a platform for the exchange of experiences and information between the world’s leading gas producing countries, stressing the concrete aspect of this protocol which will make it possible to go beyond speeches to aim for a concrete impact for the benefit of the African continent.

The Secretary General of GECF, for his part, recognized the initiatives of APPO to address the challenges facing oil and gas producers in Africa. He did not fail to indicate the full commitment of the Organization he heads, with a view to transforming this Memorandum of Understanding into cross-studies and publications, bilateral meetings and joint conferences, with a view to achieving the set course.

Guest of honor at the ceremony, the Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Republic of Congo, H.E. Stev Simplice Onanga welcomed the pooling of efforts of APPO and GECF through this historic signing. He did not fail to invite everyone to preserve in this logic of coordination and cooperation which, according to him, is the ideal solution to move forward on the various projects related to the energy autonomy of Africa.

Based in Doha, Qatar, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) represents the world’s leading gas exporting nations, and its action aims to foster a constructive dialogue between producers and consumers in order to improve the stability and security of global gas supply and demand.

L’APPO renforce son partenariat stratégique avec le GECF à travers la signature d’un Protocole d’accord entre les deux Organisations

Brazzaville, [20 juillet 2026] — Le Secrétaire Général de l’Organisation des Producteurs de Pétrole Africains (APPO) S.E. M. Farid Ghezali et le Secrétaire Général du Forum des Pays Exportateurs de Gaz (GECF) S.E. Dr. Philip Mshelbila ont procédé ce 20 juillet 2026 à la signature d’un protocole d’accord, dans le but de renforcer le cadre de coopération du dialogue énergétique GECF-APPO. La cérémonie solennelle de signature s’est déroulée au siège du Secrétariat de l’APPO à Brazzaville (République du Congo), en présence de S.E. Stev Simplice Onanga, Ministre des Hydrocarbures de la République du Congo.

L’accord vise à exécuter des activités et à partager des expériences, convergences de vue, informations, données et meilleures pratiques dans des domaines d’intérêt commun par divers moyens. Au cours de la cérémonie, le Secrétaire Général de l’APPO a salué le rôle de premier plan joué par le GECF en tant que plateforme d’échange d’expériences et d’informations entre les principaux pays producteurs de gaz dans le monde, soulignant l’aspect concret de ce protocole qui permettra d’aller au-delà des discours pour viser un impact concret au profit du continent africain.

Le Secrétaire Général du GECF a, pour sa part, reconnu les initiatives de l’APPO pour relever les défis qui se posent aux producteurs de pétrole et de gaz en Afrique. Il n’a pas manqué d’indiquer l’entier engagement de l’Organisation qu’il dirige, en vue de transformer ce protocole d’accord en études et publications croisées, en réunions bilatérales et conférences conjointes, en vue d’une bonne atteinte du cap fixé.

Invité d’honneur à la cérémonie, le Ministre des Hydrocarbures de la République du Congo, S.E. Stev Simplice Onanga s’est réjoui de la mise en commun des efforts de l’APPO et du GECF par cette signature historique. Il n’a pas manqué d’inviter les uns et les autres à préserver dans cette logique de coordination et de coopération qui, selon lui, est la solution idoine pour avancer sur les différents chantiers liés à l’autonomisation énergétique de l’Afrique.

Basé à Doha au Qatar, le Forum des Pays Exportateurs de Gaz (GECF) représente les principales nations exportatrices de gaz au monde, et son action vise à favoriser un dialogue constructif entre producteurs et consommateurs afin d’améliorer la stabilité et la sécurité de l’offre et de la demande mondiales de gaz.
