In the city of Cape Town where he is attending the Africa Energy Week 2021, the Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim had an audience on November 10, 2021 by the South African Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, His Excellency Samson Gwede Mantashe, MP.

This meeting is part of the implementation of the Secretariat’s 2021 Work Program relating to courtesy visits to Ministers and Heads of Delegation of Member Countries undertaken by the Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization, APPO, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim who was accompanied by the Managing Director of the African Energy Investment Corporation (AEICorp), Zakaria Dosso.
The audience focused on the holding of the 41st Ordinary Session Council of Ministers in Algiers; the 1st Summit of Heads of State of APPO Member Countries and the subscription to the capital of the African Energy Investment Corporation (AEICorp) and many other subjects related to the activities of the APPO including the subject related to the energy transition for which a study is being finalized and which will be presented at the Ministerial Session in Algiers.
The Secretary General of the APPO thanked the Minister for his availability and especially congratulated him and also his country for all its support and commitment to the activities of the Secretariat. For him, South Africa is a country that has and plays an important role in the APPO.
It is therefore right that he invite the Minister to attend the next Ministerial session in Algiers and strongly encourages him to push South African citizens to be interested in the activities of the APPO by applying for vacancies in the APPO Secretariat. For him, the Organization is a common asset to all Member Countries and the contribution of South Africa or South African citizens in the Organization will be an added value.
The South African Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy reassured the Secretary General of the APPO of his participation in the Ministerial Session in Algiers on 14thDecember 2021.
Regarding the subscription of his country to the capital of AEICorp, he reassured the delegation of a rapid response in favor of this African institution that could offset the Western financial institutions in the implementation of the African policy on energy.It should be recalled that South Africa joined the African Oil Producers Organization in 2005.
