The Secretary General of APPO was received in audience in Brazzaville by H.E. Louis Marie Magloire Nkoum-Me-Ntseny, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cameroon to the Republic of Congo on Friday, January 9. This visit is part of a series of meetings initiated by H.E. Farid Ghezali to make contact with the Ambassadors and Heads of Mission of the APPO Member Countries as well as some strategic countries accredited to the Republic of Congo.
The news of the energy sector in Cameroon was the main menu of this courtesy visit which took place at the Embassy of Cameroon in the Republic of Congo in Brazzaville. Installed in his position last December, and having effectively taken up his duties only four days earlier, H.E. Farid Ghezali, SG of APPO, made a point of personally going to present his courtesies to the representatives of the APPO Member Countries in the host country, the Republic of Congo. He was enthusiastically received by H.E. Louis Marie Magloire Nkoum-Me-Ntseny, Ambassador of Cameroon. In his introductory remarks, he warmly welcomed the new Secretary General of APPO, stressing the importance of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) for Cameroon, a country that had hosted theMinisterial Council of the Organization in 2024, when he was the President. The Ambassador then returned to the current situation of hydrocarbons in his country where studies to restore the main damaged refinery are underway, with the project to build a new refinery. He also referred to the renationalization of the electricity sector in his country as well as the restructuring of the transport sector.
Tackling industry challenges together
The SG H.E. Farid Ghezali, grateful for the warm welcome given to him, praised the quality of the representatives of Cameroon within the APPO. He did not fail to indicate the preliminary work underway at the Secretariat under his leadership, with a view to proposing a roadmap for his constituent, highlighting the two hot issues of the APPO’s news, namely the restructuring project of the Secretariat and that of the launch of the Africa Energy Bank (AEB). He also referred to the challenges facing the hydrocarbon industry in Africa, noting that, while the withdrawal of the United States from many organizations related to the Energy Transition could constitute a revival for fossil fuels, the Member Countries of APPO are called upon to remain vigilant and united, in order to counter the adverse effects of a fluctuating international situation. “The door of the APPO is open to you for all your concerns in the field of energy,” he added.
Cameroon, a fully committed Member Country
In response, H.E. Louis Marie Magloire Nkoum-Me-Ntseny said that he had followed with interest the process of the election of the SG of APPO. He expressed his great satisfaction because, according to him, the profile corresponds to the position. Witnessing the handover of service on December 17, 2025 in Brazzaville, he recalled the major role played by Algeria in the global energy crisis. “Cameroon is a verycommitted Member Country,” he said, reiterating his availability and that of his country to support APPO’s projects. In conclusion, the APPO SG took the opportunity to ask H.E. the Ambassador to convey his New Year’s wishes to President Paul Biya of Cameroon, as well as to the entire government and people of Cameroon. He also invited H.E. Louis Marie Magloire Nkoum-Me-Ntseny to take part in the events to mark the 39th anniversary of APPO on January 27, 2026 in Brazzaville. The Ambassador thanked him for this and confirmed his participation.
