The Secretary General of APPO H.E. Farid Ghezali was this Thursday, January 15, 2026 in the premises of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Brazzaville. This meeting, which is part of the series of visits to the representatives in Congo of the APPO Member Countries, allowed H.E. Mrs. Imane Sami Yakout, Ambassador of Egypt to the Republic of Congo, to welcome the new SG of APPO. Recalling the dynamism of Egypt’s commitment as a Member Country of APPO, she stressed the importance of cooperation between Member Countries to address the major challenges facing Africa in the energy sector.
In response, the SG expressed on his behalf, and on behalf of the APPO staff, his wishes for a Happy New Year 2026 to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt H.E. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, to the Egyptian people as well as to H.E. the Ambassador and all the staff of the Embassy. He noted that APPO serves the Member Countries that are its raison d’être. H.E. Farid Ghezali also indicated that the promotion of cooperation is at the heart of the Organization’s activities, and that it is important for Member Countries to collaborate in terms of exchange of expertise and experience. APPO, he said, will play its role of putting people in touch, welcoming the fact that Egypt has been able to move from the status of a net importer to that of an exporter of gas thanks to significant national investments. This feat, he noted, must be shared with other Member Countries which all aspire to energy independence.
Finally, H.E. Farid Ghezali conveyed to the Ambassador an invitation to take part in the work of the 4th Forum of Ambassadors and Heads of Missions of APPO Member Countries accredited to the Republic of Congo, scheduled to be held on January 27, 2026 in Brazzaville on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the APPO. The Ambassador confirmed her participation. She also informed that the Egyptian company Petrojet is preparing to set up a local headquarters in the Republic of Congo, in view of its activities with ENI Congo. She invited the APPO Secretariat to join the upcoming events planned in this context.
