The Consul of Niger in the Republic of Congo received in audience this Friday, January 16, 2026 the Secretary General of APPO. Organized for a formal presentation of the new SG of APPO to the representative of the Member Country in Brazzaville, this session provided an opportunity to discuss the energy realities of the African continent and Niger in particular. The Secretary General H.E. Farid Ghezali also took this opportunity to present the Secretariat’s best wishes to all the people of Niger, led by H.E. General Abdourahamane Tiani.

Consul Mr. Moussa Tahirou for his part welcomed and wished good luck to the new SG for his mandate. He took the opportunity to obtain clarification on the mandate of the Africa Energy Bank (AEB) promoted by APPO, in partnership with Afreximbank. The SG then explained that the Bank was created to address the looming challenge of financing Africa’s oil and gas sector, triggered by the global transition to renewable energy and discriminatory policies against fossil fuels introduced by countries at the whims of the African oil and gas industry for decades. He added that the AEB, headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, will ensure that these resources are used effectively to support the continent’s development while investing in energy projects for the benefit of APPO Member Countries.
Finally, the SG invited the Consul, accompanied by his wife, to take part in the festivities to mark the 39th anniversary of APPO in Brazzaville on January 27. Mr. Moussa Tahirou confirmed his availability for this meeting which is being held around the theme: Development of Local Content in Oil and Gas Activities in Africa.
