The Extraordinary meeting of the African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) began in Abuja on Tuesday December 10, 2019 at the PTDF Conference facility with the meeting of the Executive Board and experts of APPO member countries to deliberate on crucial issues affecting the management and operations of the organisation.
At the opening of the meeting by the Minister of States, Petroleum Resources, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Timipre Sylva who is also the President of APPO, it was made clear that Nigeria has completed the assignment on the implementation of the reform of the organisation and was ready to submit its report to the Council of Ministers for approval. The meeting of the Executive Board deliberated on the report and made some far-reaching recommendations for presentation to the APPO Council of Ministers’ Session.
The Extraordinary Session of the Council of the Ministers, African Petroleum Producers Organisation was declared open by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
In his address to the Ministers and heads of delegation of APPO member Countries, Nigeria’s Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, recalled how Nigeria championed the founding of the African Petroleum Producers Association in 1987 with the main objective of providing a platform for cooperation and harmonisation of efforts, collaboration, sharing of knowledge and skills among African oil producing countries.
The APPO Executive Board has met and deliberated extensively on the report of the transition team as well as that of the Secretary General and their recommendations will be considered and approved by the council of Ministers of African Petroleum Organisation meeting at the PTDF House, Abuja.
