As part of its outreach tour, the SG of APPO was received on February 19, 2026 in audience by the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to the Republic of Congo in the premises of the Embassy in Brazzaville. Their Excellencies Farid Ghezali and Abdelkerim Ahmadaye discussed priority issues for the APPO and African oil and gas producing nations, including the issue of the necessary promotion of African Local Content.
It is above all to officially introduce himself that His Excellency Farid Ghezali initiated this first official meeting with the maiden Chadian diplomat in Congo. In an atmosphere marked by cordiality, the exchanges allowed the SG of APPO to wish a happy Ramadan to the President of Chad His Excellency Mahamat Idriss Déby, to the good people of Chad as well as to his host, His Excellency Abdelkerim Ahmadaye. He then indicated that the Secretariat remains available at the service of Member Countries to accomplish all the missions assigned, in line with the improvement of the energy sector, cooperation and exchanges. He said that it is indeed the feedback of Member Countries that makes it possible to consolidate the agenda and obtain tangible progress and aligned with the vision of the founding fathers.
Promote Local Content
Having joined APPO in 2005 Chad has a rich history of more than two decades of exploitation of black gold. The Ambassador, after giving a historical overview of oil exploitation in his country, indicated the various measures taken by Chad to clean up production and limit the diversion of resources. He recognized the relevance of the existence of APPO as an exclusively African Organization, bringing together Africans committed to preserving the interests of Africans in the oil and gas industry, like the OPEC Member Countries. If for him, it remains obvious that Africa’s hydrocarbons and fruitful must fully benefit Africans, the role of APPO in this sense is therefore essential. To this end, he highlighted the importance of promoting African Local Content, in particular through the training and promotion of African executives in the African oil and gas industry. To conclude, he warmly welcomed the SG, assuring him of his support for the success of his mandate, which he wants to be very active.
