This was done during a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, His Excellency Jean-Claude Gakosso.
The SG while noting that the work in the building was at an advanced stage, reiterated that the building was a great enabler for APPO to fulfill its great ambitions for the development and greatness of Africa. The building he further said would also enable the Republic of Congo to host the much awaited 1st summit of the Heads of State of APPO Member Countries in Brazzaville.
Recalling the purpose of APPO, Dr Ibrahim stated that the organization’s predecessor, APPA was transformed to APPO in 2019 as a response to the COP21 Paris Agreement on climate change to focus of the challenges posed by the energy transition programme. He further stated that a study commissioned by the Council of Ministers on the future of Africa identified four challenges-technology, finance, market and expertise stressing that it is imperative that African oil and gas producing countries strengthen their cooperation and collaboration to support the development of the industry in the light of the challenges imposed on the African continent.
Responding His Excellency Jean-Claude Gakosso appreciated APPO’s strategic role of leading the fight against the strong move to abandon fossil fuels at a time when African countries are heavily dependent on them for development and energy security for their people.
He stressed that the climate change agenda being championed by the developed countries has no place in Africa as the continent must continue to use fossil fuels, its Black Gold, to become a power to reckon with.
