Afreximbank and APPO, the two institutions promoting the Africa Energy Bank (AEB), officially received the keys to the Bank’s headquarters from the Nigerian Government on February 2, 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria. This took place during a high-level joint Meeting of APPO Ministerial Committees on Resolutions 357 and 360 pertaining to the preparatory activities for the launch of the AEB : Committee on the Fund chaired by Senegal and Committee on preparations for the launch chaired by Algeria.

The meeting was hosted by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and held at the office of the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri. Proceedings were chaired by H.E. Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and President of APPO.
Also in attendance were the Managing Director of AEICORP, Mr. Zakaria Dosso, as well as senior delegations from APPO Member Countries, including Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, and Senegal.

Discussions focused on critical and outstanding issues relating to the operationalisation and imminent launch of the Africa Energy Bank, a flagship continental initiative designed to mobilise financing for Africa’s energy projects and strengthen energy security across the continent. The meeting provided a platform for alignment among key stakeholders on governance, institutional readiness, and strategic priorities of the Bank.
Following the closed-door session, participants proceeded on a guided tour of the Africa Energy Bank Headquarters, located at the Africa Trade Center, Abuja, where they were briefed on the state of readiness of the facility and the Bank’s operational framework.

APPO SG, H.E. Farid Ghezali, in his speech reaffirmed the Organization’s appreciation to the Government of Nigeria for its leadership and continued commitment to the successful establishment of the Africa Energy Bank, stating that he “respectfully commends the vision of the Nigerian Authorities and their continued commitment to African solutions. By agreeing to host the headquarters of this strategic institution, Nigeria reaffirms its leading role in building a more integrated, resilient, and action-oriented African energy architecture.”
