The Secretary General (SG), African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), His Excellency, Dr Omar Farouk Ibrahim called for greater commitments of the CEOs of National Oil Companies (NOCs) of Member Countries towards the achievement of APPO’s objectives.
The call was made during a recent courtesy call on the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC Ltd) Mallam Mele Kyari as part of APPO’s campaign for greater cooperation among Member Countries.
The SG explained that following the reforms leading to the birth of APPO, it has become imperative for major players in the African Oil and Gas industry especially the NOCs to play key roles at high levels in APPO. He then revealed that a meeting of CEOs of NOCs of Member Countries has been institutionalized in APPO for the exchange of technical experiences among Member Countries.
His Excellency, Dr Omar Farouk Ibrahim while paying a heartfelt tribute to the GMD for his role and leadership in Nigeria’s energy sector as well as the dynamism he has continued to bring to the company’s transformation, formally invited him to the inaugural meeting of the CEOs scheduled for Luanda, Angola in May 2022. The meeting is part of activities lined up for the 8th edition of the African Petroleum Congress and Exhibition, CAPE VIII.
Speaking also on the project towards the expansion of energy infrastructure throughout the African region, the SG lauded the project as a welcome development and urged its realization. He also solicited support for the APPO Fund, AEICORP.Responding, Mallam Mele Kyari stressed that the project towards the expansion of energy infrastructure in Africa is a key project. He urged APPO to take the lead in efforts towards strenthening all necessary collaboration to ensure its commencement before the meeting of CEOs of NOCs in Luanda. He assured the SG of NNPC Ltd’s commitment to work with APPO for the realization of its mandate including Nigeria’s contribution to AIECORP.

Le Secrétaire Général de l’Organisation des Producteurs de Pétrole Africains (APPO), Son Excellence Dr Omar Farouk Ibrahim, a appelé à une plus grande implication des PDG des compagnies pétrolières nationales (NOC) des pays membres dans la réalisation des objectifs de l’APPO.
Cet appel a été lancé lors d’une récente visite de courtoisie au Directeur Général du groupe (GMD) de la Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC Ltd), Mallam Mele Kyari, dans le cadre de la campagne de l’APPO pour une coopération plus forte entre les pays membres.
Le SG a expliqué qu’à la suite des réformes qui ont conduit à la naissance de l’APPO, il est devenu impératif que les principaux acteurs de l’industrie pétrolière et gazière africaine, notamment les NOC, jouent un rôle clé à haut niveau au sein de l’APPO. Il a ensuite révélé qu’une réunion des PDG des NOC des pays membres a été institutionnalisée au sein de l’APPO pour l’échange d’expériences techniques entre les pays membres.
Son Excellence, Dr Omar Farouk Ibrahim, tout en rendant un hommage appuyé au GMD pour son rôle et son leadership dans le secteur énergétique nigérian ainsi que pour le dynamisme qu’il n’a cessé d’apporter à la transformation de la compagnie, l’a formellement invité à la réunion inaugurale des PDG prévue à Luanda, en Angola, en mai 2022. Cette réunion s’inscrit dans le cadre des activités prévues pour la 8e édition du Congrès et de l’exposition du pétrole africain, CAPE VIII.
S’exprimant également sur le projet d’expansion de l’infrastructure énergétique dans toute la région africaine, le Secrétaire général a salué ce projet comme un développement bienvenu et a appelé à sa réalisation. Il a également sollicité un soutien pour le fonds APPO, AEICORP.
En réponse, Mallam Mele Kyari a souligné que le projet d’expansion de l’infrastructure énergétique en Afrique est un projet clé. Il a exhorté l’APPO à prendre la tête des efforts visant à renforcer toute collaboration nécessaire pour assurer son démarrage avant la réunion des PDG des NOC à Luanda. Il a assuré le SG de l’engagement de NNPC Ltd à travailler avec l’APPO pour la réalisation de son mandat, y compris la contribution du Nigeria à AIECORP.
