The Chairman of the meeting of CEOs of APPO National Oil Companies (NOCs) and Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd has called on African Petroleum Producing Countries to move from making beautiful PowerPoint presentations to taking concrete actions that will take the continent out of energy poverty.
He made the call at the 2nd meeting of CEOs of the NOCs in Abuja, Nigeria recently... Giving more details, the meeting Chairman stressed that Africa must opt for a synergy of actions to meet the challenges posed by the energy transition to its oil and gas industry. He urged the meeting to strengthen and integrate such regional initiatives as the trans-Saharan pipeline project, the Central Africa pipeline project (CAPS) and the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) towards meeting the challenges.
He further emphasized on the need to create a financial institution as soon as possible to finance energy, oil and gas projects.
In an opening remark before the meeting, , the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Chief Timipre Sylva who was accompanied by his counterparts from Equatorial Guinea and Niger, recalled that the decision to revive and empower the CEOs of the NOCs of the APPO Member Countries(MCs) was taken by APPO’s Ministerial Council during the major reform and restructuring. from APPA to APPO. This, he explained, was in recognition of the essential role that the NOCs of the APPO MCs would play in ensuring the survival and development of the oil and gas industry in Africa in the era of energy transition. »
Key considerations at the Meeting include:
- Contributions from sovereign funds for the financing of the oil and gas industry through the African Energy Transition Bank;
- Support for regional integrated infrastructure initiatives such as the extension of the GAO in the West African region to Morocco, the trans-Saharan pipeline projects and the Central African Pipeline System (CAPS)
- The rapid establishment of Pan-African oil and gas services companies in the various fields of industry coordinated by the APPO Secretariat. .
The CEOs also unanimously welcomed the APPO Secretariat’s ongoing initiative to visit and inspect training institutes and research and development centers to identify centers that qualify as Centers of Excellence for APPO MCs. They also recognized the need for sharing of practical experiences and expertise among the NOCs as an essential in the mastery of activities in the Oil and Gas Value Chain.
The meeting which was hosted by the new NNPC Ltd was held shortly after the unveiling of the new company by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, HE Muhamadu Buhari.

Le Président du Forum des DG des Sociétés Nationales des Hydrocarbures (SNH) de l’APPO et PDG du Groupe de la Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd a appelé les pays africains producteurs de pétrole à passer de belles présentations PowerPoint à des actions concrètes qui sortiront le continent de la pauvreté énergétique.
Il a lancé cet appel lors de la 2e réunion des PDG des NOC qui s’est tenue récemment à Abuja, au Nigeria. Donnant plus de détails, le Président du Forum a souligné que l’Afrique doit opter pour une synergie d’actions afin de relever les défis posés par la transition énergétique à son industrie pétrolière et gazière. Il a exhorté les participants à renforcer et à intégrer des initiatives régionales telles que le projet de gazoduc transsaharien, le projet de gazoduc de l’Afrique centrale (CAPS) et le gazoduc de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (WAGP) afin de relever ces défis.
Il a également insisté sur la nécessité de créer le plus rapidement possible une institution financière pour financer les projets énergétiques, pétroliers et gaziers.
Dans son discours d’ouverture, le Ministre Délégué aux Ressources Pétrolières de la République Fédérale du Nigeria, Son Excellence Chief Timipre Sylva, qui était accompagné de ses homologues de la Guinée Équatoriale et du Niger, a rappelé que la décision de relancer et d’habiliter les PDG des SNH des Pays Membres de l’APPO avait été prise par le Conseil ministériel de l’APPO lors de la réforme et de la restructuration majeures de l’APPA à l’APPO. Ceci, a-t-il expliqué, était en reconnaissance du rôle essentiel que les SNH des Pays Membres de l’APPO joueraient pour assurer la survie et le développement de l’industrie pétrolière et gazière en Afrique à l’ère de la transition énergétique. “
Les décisions clés de la réunion comprennent :
- Les contributions des fonds souverains pour le financement de l’industrie pétrolière et gazière par le biais de la Banque Africaine de Transition Energétique ;
- Le soutien aux initiatives d’infrastructures régionales intégrées, telles que l’extension du GAO dans la région de l’Afrique de l’Ouest jusqu’au Maroc, les projets de pipelines transsahariens et le Central African Pipeline System (CAPS).
- La création rapide de sociétés panafricaines de services pétroliers et gaziers dans les différents domaines de l’industrie, coordonnées par le secrétariat de l’APPO. .
Les PDG ont également salué à l’unanimité l’initiative en cours du Secrétariat de l’APPO de visiter et d’inspecter les instituts de formation et les centres de recherche et de développement afin d’identifier les centres pouvant être qualifiés de centres d’excellence pour les Pays Membres de l’APPO. Ils ont également reconnu que le partage d’expériences pratiques et d’expertise entre les SNH est essentiel à la maîtrise des activités de la chaîne de valeur du pétrole et du gaz.
La réunion, qui s’est tenue dans les locaux de la nouvelle NNPC Ltd, a eu lieu peu de temps après l’inauguration de la nouvelle société par le Président de la République Fédérale du Nigeria, M. Muhamadu Buhari.
