The Republic of Sudan has expressed interest in joining the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO). This was expressed by the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Eng. Mohammed Abdalla during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Sudan National Petroleum Company (SUDAPET).
Responding to an invitation to join APPO by the President of APPO, His Excellency Samou Seïdou Adambi and delivered by APPO’s Secretary General, Dr.Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Eng. Mohammed Abdalla assured APPO that Sudan will join APPO Member Countries to work together for the benefit of African countries.
Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, a guest of honor at the event, in a speech articulated APPO’s position on the current Energy Transition. He emphasised that the energy transition as currently being pushed by the developed nations represents a serious threat to African economies. He told the audience that a major study conducted by APPO on the Future of Africa’s Oil and Gas Industry in Light of the Energy Transition identified four imminent threats namely finance, technology, manpower and infrastructure.
On finance, Dr Ibrahim disclosed that APPO is partnering with Afreximbank to create the African Energy Bank (AEB) which will provide financing for energy projects on the continent as foreign markets are withdrawing funding while our technology is not developed. APPO Secretariat he further said is currently identifying training institutions in selected APPO countries that could become regional centres of excellence in oil and gas. On infrastructure, APPO he also said is working to create the energy infrastructure needed to move energy from areas of abundance to areas of need like the Central Africa Pipeline System.

La République du Soudan a exprimé son intérêt à rejoindre l’Organisation des Producteurs de Pétrole Africains (APPO). Ceci a été exprimé par le Ministre de l’Energie et du Pétrole, Ing. Mohammed Abdalla, lors de la célébration du 25ème anniversaire de la Sudan National Petroleum Company (SUDAPET).
Répondant à une invitation du Président de l’APPO, Son Excellence Samou Seïdou Adambi, à rejoindre l’APPO, et remise par le Secrétaire Général de l’APPO, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Ing. Mohammed Abdalla a assuré l’APPO que le Soudan se joindra aux Pays Membres de l’APPO pour travailler ensemble pour le bénéfice des pays africains.
Omar Farouk Ibrahim, invité d’honneur de l’événement, a exposé dans son discours la position de l’APPO sur la transition énergétique actuelle. Il a souligné que la transition énergétique, telle qu’elle est actuellement prônée par les nations développées, représente une menace sérieuse pour les économies africaines. Il a expliqué au public qu’une étude majeure menée par l’APPO sur l’Avenir de l’Industrie Pétrolière et Gazière Africaine à la Lumière de la Transition Energétique a identifié quatre menaces imminentes, à savoir les finances, la technologie, la main-d’œuvre et les infrastructures. En ce qui concerne les finances, le Dr Ibrahim a révélé que l’APPO s’est associée à Afreximbank pour créer la Banque Africaine de l’Energie (BAE) qui fournira des financements pour les projets énergétiques sur le continent, car les marchés étrangers retirent leurs financements alors que notre technologie n’est pas développée. Le Secrétariat de l’APPO, a-t-il ajouté, est en train d’identifier des institutions de formation dans certains pays de l’APPO qui pourraient devenir des centres d’excellence régionaux dans le domaine du pétrole et du gaz. Pour ce qui est des infrastructures, l’APPO travaille à la création des infrastructures énergétiques nécessaires pour transporter l’énergie des zones d’abondance vers les zones de besoin, comme le Central Africa Pipeline System.
