SONANGOL CEO’s Engineer and immediate past president of the forum of CEOs of NOCs of APPO member countries, Mr Sebastiâo Gaspar Martins has called on CEOs of NOCs of APPO member countries to focus on cooperation and collaboration among APPO member countries as the way out of the challenges facing the African continent in the global energy scene,
The call was made at the 4th meeting of the Forum held recently in Algiers, Algeria where he handed over to Mr. Toufik Hakkar, CEO of SONATRACH as the President of the Forum for one year.
While expressing delight at the growing interest in the Forum and the initiatives taken to overcome the challenges facing the industry, Mr Gaspar urged his colleagues to strive to maintain the interest to enable them overcome the challenges collectively.”
Speaking shortly after taking over as President of the Forum, Mr. Hakkar commended APPO’s Council of Ministers for reviving the forum with a new mandate for greater cooperation and collaboration. The decision, he said was geared towards engaging the NOCs in the search for solutions to the challenges facing the African oil and gas industry. The NOCs, he further said bear the consequences and therefore understand the challenges the most. This he reiterated places them in the best position to profer practical solutions to the challenges.
Mr Hakkar expressed deep appreciation to past presidents of the forum for their exemplary leadership and commitment to the success of the Forum and urged the APPO Secretariat to continue to ensure that all expectations are met.
In his speech at the event, APPO’s Secretary General, H.E Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim thanked the CEOs and their delegations for the importance attached to the Forum and the fruitful deliberations. He also appreciated HE Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines of Algeria for the important role he played during the reform of APPA to APPO and his continued support to the Organization.
The 4th meeting of the forum which ha 16 CEOs and representatives in attendance featured technical sessions of various topics culminating in recommendations.
The CEOs also visited the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP), the Research and Development Center and the SONATRACH Laboratories in Boumerdès as part of APPOs efforts at identifying institutes in APPO member countries for capacity building.

Sebastiâo Gaspar Martins, a appelé les PDG des SNH des Pays Membres de l’APPO à se concentrer sur la coopération et la collaboration entre les pays membres de l’APPO comme moyen de sortir des défis auxquels le continent africain est confronté sur la scène énergétique mondiale,
L’appel a été lancé lors de la 4ème réunion du Forum qui s’est tenue récemment à Alger, en Algérie, où il a passé la main à M. Toufik Hakkar, PDG de SONATRACH, en tant que Président du Forum pour un an.
Tout en se réjouissant de l’intérêt croissant pour le Forum et des initiatives prises pour surmonter les défis auxquels l’industrie est confrontée, M. Gaspar a exhorté ses collègues à s’efforcer de maintenir cet intérêt pour leur permettre de surmonter les défis collectivement. »
S’exprimant peu après avoir pris ses fonctions de président du Forum, M. Hakkar a félicité le Conseil des ministres de l’APPO d’avoir relancé le forum avec un nouveau mandat pour une coopération et une collaboration accrue. La décision, a-t-il dit, vise à engager les SNH dans la recherche de solutions auxdéfis auxquels est confrontée l’industrie pétrolière et gazière africaine. Les SNH, a-t-il ajouté, en subissent les conséquences et comprennent donc le mieux les défis. Il a rappelé que cela les plaçait dans la meilleure position pour apporter des solutions pratiques aux défis.
M. Hakkar a exprimé sa profonde gratitude aux anciens présidents du forum pour leur leadership exemplaire et leur engagement en faveur du succès du forum et a exhorté le Secrétariat de l’APPO à continuer de veiller à ce que toutes les attentes soient satisfaites.
Dans son discours prononcé lors de l’événement, le Secrétaire Général de l’APPO, S.E. Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim a remercié les PDG et leurs délégations pour l’importance attachée au Forum et aux délibérations fructueuses. Il a également remercié S.E. M. Mohamed Arkab, ministre de l’Énergie et des Mines de l’Algérie, pour le rôle important qu’il a joué lors de la réforme de l’APPA à l’APPO et son soutien continu à l’Organisation.
La 4ème réunion du forum à laquelle ont assisté 16 PDG et représentants a comporté des sessions techniques sur divers sujets aboutissant à des recommandations.
Les PDG ont également visité l’Institut Algérien du pétrole (IAP), le Centre de Recherche et Développement et les Laboratoires SONATRACH à Boumerdès dans le cadre des efforts de l’APPO visant à identifier les instituts dans les pays membres de l’APPO pour le renforcement des capacités.
