Brazzaville, [11 June 2026] — The Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) received in audience at the Organization’s headquarters in Brazzaville (Congo) His Excellency Mr. Bunuyaminu Hammawa, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria accredited to the Republic of Congo.
This meeting is part of the continuous strengthening of cooperation ties between APPO and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a founding member and major player of the Organization. Discussions focused on shared priorities for energy cooperation, African capacity development and the promotion of a more integrated, resilient and sovereign oil and gas industry.
During the meeting, the Secretary General praised Nigeria’s leading role in APPO, both through its political commitment and its technical and strategic contribution to the Organization’s initiatives. Nigeria remains, as such, a key pillar of the common vision of APPO for the development of African resources and the local transformation of the sector.
The discussions also highlighted Nigeria’s instrumental contribution to the establishment of the Africa Energy Bank (AEB), a landmark initiative to mobilize African finance for the continent’s energy projects. As a major contributor to this institution, Nigeria confirms its leadership and commitment to African energy sovereignty based on African solutions.
The Secretary General reaffirmed that the AEB is a strategic tool to address the persistent challenges of financing oil, gas and energy projects in Africa, while supporting value creation, industrialization and sustainable development.
This audience also reiterated the importance of diplomatic dialogue and cooperation between Member Countries to consolidate the action of APPO and accelerate the implementation of structuring initiatives for the benefit of the continent.
APPO welcomes this fraternal and constructive meeting, which illustrates the quality of relations between the Organization and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and reaffirms its willingness to continue to work closely with all its Member Countries to build a stronger, more united and more prosperous African energy future.
